MEET THE DOCTORS

Dr. Daniel Nyhuis has been practicing dentistry since 1992. He graduated from The University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and completed a residency at the Veterans Administration in Castle Point, New York. Dr. Nyhuis, his wife, Debra, their four children (3 daughters and 1 son) and dog proudly live in New Jersey.   He practices family dentistry and believes in making his patients feel comfortable while providing great dentistry. Appointments with Dr. Nyhuis' associate, Dr. Nicki Childress, are also available.

Dr. Nicki Childress has been practicing dentistry since 1998. She graduated from The University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and completed a residency at the Veterans Administration in East Orange, New Jersey. She has been working with Dr. Nyhuis for over 9 years now. She is an avid Yankee fan and lives in New Jersey with her husband, Dave, and son. 

Dr.Daniel Akkaway earned his dental degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine.   Subsequently, he completed a General Dentistry Residency at Sepulveda VA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.  Dr. Akkaway then returned to New York to complete his training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at St. Barnabas Hospital.  Dr. Akkaway is well trained in all aspects of Orthodontics.  He ensures that he is at the forefront of new orthodontic techniques with extensive continuing education.  Dr. Akkaway’s special interests include implant-assisted movement of teeth, cosmetic alternatives to traditional braces such as Invisalign, and Orthognathic surgery to correct skeletal jaw imbalances.  Dr. Akkaway grew up in New Jersey where he now resides with his wife Jennifer and daughter Sofia.  He is excited to be a part of the DANIEL A. NYHUIS DMD team and looks forward to building trusting relationships with his patients while providing orthodontic care in a warm and friendly environment.
