About Sedation:

The smile is one of the most powerful and influential forms of expression a person can have.  Many are born with the natural gift of meaningful expression.  For others, time and life have made alterations that can be unpleasant and most often painful.  In fact, many patients have avoided the dentist for years because of fear or anxiety. Sedation, is a safe and effective way that has allowed Dr. Gailiunas to help many patients that would otherwise avoid treatment.  In one or two visits, Dr. Gailiunas can catch up on years of dental work while the patient relaxes and lightly snoozes right through treatment.  It's a wonderful option that more and more patients are asking for.  Dr. Gailiunas and his staff have taken advanced training in order to provide patients with a comfortable and safe way to undergo dental treatment. Dr. Gailiunas is fully permitted by the Massachusetts State Board of Dental Examiners.

Who is a Candidate For Sedation?

Patients who:

  • Have a fear of visiting the dentist

  • Have had past traumatic dental experiences
  • Are afraid or embarrassed by their teeth

  • Have a pronounced gag reflex

  • Have sensitive teeth and gums

  • Dislike the noices, smells and tastes associated with a dental office

  • Would like to have years of dental work done in one or two visits

How Sedation Works:

Sedation protocols have been used safely for over 30 years in medical and dental settings.  Before starting treatment, a review of your medical history is performed.  You are required to have a ride to and from your appointment. Usually the night before treatment, you will be prescribed a valium in order to get a good nights rest.  Upon arriving at the office the following morning, a secondary medication is given to completely relax you and get you comfortable. During which time the clinical team monitors you very closely while you're sedated. Dr. Gailiunas and his team are certified in Oral and IV Sedation, and will review with you what the best option for you is.
