Orthodontics

Misaligned teeth can cause more than just a crooked smile. In addition to difficulties speaking or eating normally, crooked or crowded teeth can lead to an increased risk of gum disease, tooth decay, and tooth loss. This is because it is difficult to properly clean misaligned teeth. Often, patients with improperly-aligned smiles also suffer from reduced self-esteem and a lack of confidence in their appearance. While many cases of malocclusion (or "bad bite") are due to genetic factors, orthodontics can also help correct cases of misaligned teeth due to accidents, disease, or habitual actions such as thumbsucking.
At Brenham Dental Center, we offer a full range of advanced treatments designed to correct malocclusion, including ClearCorrect® clear braces and traditional orthodontic braces. We have helped many patients achieve healthy, properly aligned smiles at Brenham Dental Center, restoring their self-confidence and giving them smiles they can be proud of.

ClearCorrect® Clear Braces

If you're interested in orthodontic treatment but are worried about the traditional "metal mouth" associated with orthodontia, you may be a prime candidate for ClearCorrect® clear braces. Many of our patients have discovered how comfortable, removable ClearCorrect® aligners are and can correct most orthodontic issues--without onlookers even being aware the aligners are in!

Rather than metal braces bonded to the teeth, the ClearCorrect® system uses a series of clear aligners custom-designed for each patient. Each ClearCorrect® aligner subtly shifts teeth into their proper positions with minimal discomfort, and each patient maintains control over their own treatment — simply remove the aligners to eat, brush, and floss. About every two weeks, a new aligner will appear in the mail, marking another milestone reached in the patient's orthodontic progress. ClearCorrect® treatment frequently takes less time than traditional orthodontic treatment, often less than a year from beginning to end. During the entire treatment, friends and family won't even know when you're wearing the aligners unless you choose to let them in on your secret. The end result will be a healthy, properly aligned smile that you'll be thrilled to show off.

Orthodontic Braces

While ClearCorrect® is effective for most patients, some orthodontic cases fall outside the range of what ClearCorrect® is able to correct. For these and other patients, we also offer orthodontic treatment with traditional orthodontic braces. With traditional braces, brackets are bonded firmly to the surface of each tooth and then threaded together with an arch wire. The steady, gentle pressure exerted by the wire upon the brackets gradually shifts teeth into their ideal positions over the course of treatment, resulting in a properly aligned smile. Depending on the severity of the malocclusion, the duration of treatment can take from a few months for lightly misaligned teeth, to a few years for the most severe cases. Traditional orthodontic treatment has stood the test of time and proven its effectiveness at treating a wide range of misalignments, with long-lasting results.
In children, malocclusions frequently become noticeable as permanent teeth come in between the ages of 6 and 12. Orthodontic treatment is often more effective when begun before a child has stopped growing. For this reason, it is recommended that children have an orthodontic evaluation by age 7 so that if orthodontic treatment is necessary it can be started while the child is still between the ages of 8 and 14. Of course, braces aren't just for kids; adults, too, can benefit from orthodontic braces. At Brenham Dental Center, many adult patients have successfully corrected crooked or crowded teeth with orthodontic treatment.
